Toward Correlated Electrons Technology
(Role of orbital ordering)

In the recent years, many interesting physical phenomena such as unconventional superconductivity, ferroelectricity, and collosal magnetoresistance have been found in the materials where the interaction between electrons (Coulomb interaction) are very strong. In those materials the single-electron picture is no more applicable at all and a many-electrons picture has to be taken considered. The strongly interacting electrons can form a new electronic state related to charge, spin, and orbital states, while triggered by external field (either E or H) its electrical, magnetic, and optical properties can change. The properties such as a spin-polarized conduction carriers which has been quite promising for a spintronic technology can be obtained from this class of material while the potential application to use orbital are also widely investigated, perhaps, for an orbitronic technology in the future.
In this talk, the properties of correlated electrons system and its potential for future technology will be presented. Some aspects on obital physics will be discussed related to remarkable physical properties in transition metal oxides, in particular on the vanadates, (RVO3, R=rare-earth).
