    Medical Physics, Biophysics, and Bio-Medical Engineering Congress Jogjakarta, 10 13 December 2010

    Biological sciences (life sciences) is an important component for the development of biotechnology today and the future. In its development, biological sciences have close links with the non-biological-sciences such as physics, biophysics in particular. Biophysics is a branch of physics that specializes in the utilization of the rules of physics to explain the processes in biological systems.

    Medical Physics is one branch of physics applications. This field is related to the application of various concepts of physics for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment of human disease therapy. Some examples of applications of physics in this medical field include the use of ionizing radiation for diagnostic and therapy (Radiological physics), bio electric to investigate the brain and heart (electroencephalography and electrocardiography), the use of infrared radiation ultrasound, the core magnetic resonance (magnetic resonance imaging), heat (hyperthermia), and laser (for surgery). Modern medical practice is highly dependent on equipment, techniques, and principles of physics. Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are complex and the need for high accuracy speed up the development of medical physics.

    Biomedical engineering is the application of engineering principles and techniques to the medical field. This field seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine. It combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to improve healthcare diagnosis and treatment.

    Given the importance of the role of biophysics, biomedical engineering and medical physics above, then this field require attention to be developed in Indonesia, particularly in universities and research institutions, given the support conditions in Indonesia as a country with a source of biodiversity is very abundant, and the object of extensive research and diverse.
