    Abstract:
    Particle Physics has gained a lot of attention recently with the discovery of the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland. Scientists all over the world have been looking for this particle for more than 40 years. I will discuss its special role in the Standard Model of Particle Physics and the successful experimental efforts to find it at the LHC. But this is not the end of the story. In fact, the Higgs discovery opens a new chapter in the book of particle physics answering some and, at the same time, asking new questions. These questions challenge the current and next generation of particle physicists on the theoretical and experimental side and will keep them busy for the next 20-30 years at least.
    But not only the high energy frontier is being pushed to new horizons by ongoing experiments. Also the intensity frontier has made significant progress in the last years, most prominently in the neutrino sector. I will discuss some of the current experimental efforts and their importance for our understanding of the fundamental laws of nature.
    (At the end of my talk I will also give some brief information about study opportunities at ICTP and SISSA in Trieste, Italy)
