    Dear Friends,

Following our first, premature, message (see below), we are happy to let you know that the fun can now begin: the black-box web page is ready, with one "classic" and two new data sets to start working on:

We hope you will accept our invitation to participate!

Subject: Invitation to LHC Olympics in February 2006

    ] Dear Friend,
] We are organizing the next workshop in the "LHC
] Olympics" series, which will take place at CERN on 9 and 10 Febuary
] 2006. The meeting will bring together theorists and LHC
] experimenters, and is part of several activities aimed at helping
] theorists prepare for the advent of LHC data.
] More information about the workshop and activities can
] be found on the LHCO webpage:
] To focus the discussion, we have set up a data challenge
] in the form of three "black boxes", data sets produced by LHC event
] generator programs. The black-box data, with explanations on how
] they have been generated, are found at
    ] http://www.phys.washington.edu/users/strasslr/LHCO.BBpage.html
] We would like to invite you to partipate in the LHCO workshop and
] join in the discussion, and encourage you to look at and
] interpret the LHC new physics black-box signals.
    ] Best regards,
    ] The Organizing Committee

    Dear Friends,

In response to some enquiries from prospective participants at the next LHC Olympics Workshop, here's a short update:

    * Various groups have started looking at the black-box data sets,
    posted on: http://wwwth.cern.ch/lhcOlympics/lhcolympicsII.html.

The "Chameleon" Mathematica package, available on the Harvard black- box page, offers a quick and easy way to get started analysing the data.

    * We're now opening up a wiki (login: olympian, password: blackbox) at
on which you'll find some easy-to-follow instructions on how to set up your own event-generator software. This enables you to generate your own "white box" data sets! The wiki format allows all participants to post comments, links, suggestions, questions, etc.

    * To register for participation in the LHCO workshop at CERN on 9 and 10 February 2006, please send an e-mail to: lhc.olympics@cern.ch . We will later announce the programme for the workshop on our web page.

    * For accommodation, please contact the CERN Hostel
(cern.hostel@cern.ch), saying that you are coming for the LHC Olympics Workshop. We have pre-booked a block of rooms, which will be given with the principle first asked first served. (This block booking will be open until 31 January, after which date you will have to try on a personal basis. So please make your reservation before that date.)

We look forward to seeing you at CERN in February! The organizers.

    Dear Friends again,
We are still glad to announce that the 3rd LHC Olympics is
hosted by the Kavli Institute for
    Theoretical Physics at Santa Barbara,

and will take place on 24 and 25 August 2006

unlike what was said in the first message (just before the String
    Phenomenology 2006 Conference at KITP).

    Information can be found at

We hope that you will be able to participate.
    Best regards,

    THE LHCO Organizing Committee
